| Step # | Instruction | Photo | Parts to Save or Use |
| 1 | Remove the shift lever from its plate. | Save: Bolt, nut, washer | |
| 2 | Remove the shift rod from shifter & transmission. Leave the shift arm on the transmission. | ![]() |
Save: Shifter, shifter bolt, both nuts from shift rod (one is has left hand threads). |
| 3 | Remove the old control plate from the bike. | Save: Mounting bolts | |
| 4 | Bolt the new forward control plate to the bike using the bolts from step #3. The shift plate has the smaller hole in the "bump". Torque bolts to proper specs. | ![]() |
Use: Mounting bolts, new forward control shift plate |
| 5 | Thread the nuts onto the new shift rod until they bottom out. | Use: shift nuts - left handed & right handed, new shift rod | |
| 6 | Begin threading the new shift rod (the one with the bend in the middle) into the shift arm on the transmission. A few threads are enough at this point. The threads are left-handed. The rod will either travel above or below the lower control mount on the frame. This will depend on the kit. Kits with 1" rise on the pegs will typically go over the frame mount. Most others will go below. | ![]() |
Use: new shift rod with nuts |
| 7 | Begin threading the shift arm onto the other end of the shift rod. A few threads are fine at this point. | Use: new shift rod with nuts | |
| 8 | Turn the shift rod, threading it into the shifter and the transmission arm. This adjustment will determine the height of your shifter. Be sure to stop with the bend clearing the frame mount. | ||
| 9 | Place the old washer on the bolt and run
the bolt through the shifter. The new
small
washer is placed between the control
plate
and the shifter. This acts as a small
spacer
to clear the bolt for the pegs. Note: if installing bobber style forwards, the washers are not necessary and are not included in the kit. |

Use: Shifter & bolt, washer, nut from step #1, new small washer |
| 10 | Run the bolt through the new control plate. The shift rod will run either below or above the frame mount. Control plates with 1" of rise will generally go over the top. Try it both ways to see which fits best. Place the nut on the bolt and torque to the specs. | ||
| 11 | To adjust the height of shift peg, the shifter must be removed from the control plate to spin the shift rod. | ||
| 12 | Bolt the new peg to the control plate. | ![]() |
Use new pegs & mounts |
| 13 | Brake side | ||
| 14 | Disconnect the brake light spring from the brake pedal. Pull the switch assembly out of the mount. Let spring & switch hang from the bike out of the way. | ![]() |
Save: Spring and brake light switch. |
| 15 | Remove the roll pin from the front end of the brake rod. This is necessary in order to disconnect the brake rod from the brake pedal. This pin has to be pressed out. A good pair of needle nose pliers can be used. Vise Grips can be used to pull on the pin. | ||
| 16 | Disconnect the brake rod from the brake pedal. Leave lock nut on brake rod. | ||
| 17 | Unbolt the old control plate from the frame. The lower bolt runs through the brake pedal. Be sure to observe the spring mounting method. | ![]() |
Save: mounting bolts, brake pedal assembly, return spring |
| 18 | |||
| 19 | Attach the new control plates to the top frame mount. Do not tighten it down. | Use: Mounting bolts, new forward control plate | |
| 20 | Run the lower bolt through the mounting plate
and through the black spacer from the
kit.
This spacer fills the gap from the
brake
pedal. Tighten both mounting bolts
to specs. Note: If you are installing a bobber style, the spacer will be welded to the brake extension. |
Use: Mounting bolts, new spacer | |
| 21 | Mount the brake pedal to the control plate using the new bolt, washer, & cap nut from the kit. The spring should mount similar to stock. Tighten the new brake bolt & nut. | Use: Mounting bolts, new spacer | |
| 22 | Place the washer with the small hole drilled in it on the stock brake rod. Thread the coupling nut onto the stock brake rod slightly less than half the length of the nut. | ![]() |
Use: new coupling nut |
| 23 | Bolt the new brake light bracket to the horn mount. The bend should go towards the front. Position the bracket so it hangs straight down. The brake switch goes through the large hole. The spring hooks to the small hole in the washer. | ![]() |
Use: new brake rod extension |
| 24 | Thread an 8mm nut onto each end of the brake rod extension. Thread the brake rod extension into the coupling nut slightly less than half the length of the nut. Tighten the 8mm nut on both sides of the coupling nut to prevent the brake rod & the brake rod extension from turning in the coupling nut. | ![]() |
|
| 25 | Thread the brake rod extension into the brake pedal. Do not tighten lock nut yet. | ||
| 26 | Mount new peg to the brake side plate. | Use: new L-bracket, old brake light spring & switch | |
| 27 | Adjust brake pedal height to comfortable position. Tighten lock nut against the brake pedal to prevent the rod from turning. | ||
| 28 | Adjust brake light spring tension on the switch so that the brake light is off when not depressed and on when depressed. | ![]() |
Use: Spring and brake light switch |
| 29 | Ride and enjoy! | ![]() |
